Business Registration Checklist:

  • Define the type of your business:
    • Its initial size (number of employees and annual turnover you are considering it to have);
    • Types of processes it will operate;
  • Check your local zoning rules and requirements which concern to your type of business;
  • Create a Business Plan to approach creditors (a business plan and an agreement from financiers to provide you with a loan can be required by government to allow registering a business);
  • Figure out which formal size will be attributed to your company according to local laws (large, medium or small enterprise): this is usually derived from number of employees and your annual turnover;

      • Partnership agreement;

    • Limited Partnership;
      • General Partner and Limited Partner information;
  • Identify details of your Partner(s) or Responsible Person, if appropriate:
    • Name;
    • Official Title;
    • Social Security Number or other kind of personal ID;
    • Home address (city, state, province, zip code, etc);
  • Identify your desired business name;
  • Check with your local authorities on the availability of the desired business name;
  • Visit or contact your local State Department or other institution which handles business startup questions, and collect information you need to go on with establishing your business:
    • Documents and permits you need to collect;
    • Amount of time it takes to register a new business;
    • Payments or fees which you need to make in order to start your business;
    • Specific staff requirements and licensing that is necessary to maintain your business;
  • Reasoning from your size, type of business and ownership structure define:
    • A taxation pattern that will be applied to your enterprise;
    • A type of accounting you will need to carry out during the business activity;
    • Privileges that can be granted to your business;
  • Identify and verify your business details:
    • Legal Business Name;
    • Owner’s Name;
    • Trade Name (to be exposed to customers instead of Legal Business Name);
    • Daytime business telephone and email;
    • Physical business address;
    • Official mailing address;
  • Perform a procedure necessary to register your business name and entity;
  • Additionally register a trade name which will be known to the public;
  • Learn from your local authorities how the taxation will be performed. You may need to provide them with:
    • Business property tax information;
    • Personal property tax information;
    • Financial statements, or certain information quoted from them;
    • Salary budget and billing;
    • Any other documents proving your financial transactions;
