  TESTIMONIALS
"...This is an excellent program. I'm so glad that I stumbled on to this when researching for task management programs. Very low learning curv, quite flexible, and the price is right. Tried at least 20 other programs, either too complicated, too expensive, or poor documentation..."

Self improvement checklist

All Travel Checklists

Picnic checklist This self improvement checklist is dedicated to consideration of how a person can become better and happier. In this guide we consider what actually the self-improvement means, as it is not a unilateral conception, but a complex of personal traits and views which should be analyzed and developed to make you really self-improved, sometimes even cardinally. This checklist will be helpful to anyone who would like to study and gradually better his lifestyle in the matters of health, mentality and personality.

Goals, facts and ideas:

  • There is a massive diversity in understanding of what a self improvement is. Mainly it is associated with changing our attitudes to social and personal life in order of reaching its better quality and controllability.
  • Is self-improvement a way to get a better job or higher salary? Is it a way to get higher social position by developing personal traits? Is it about getting a better health or being smarter? Or is it all about being happier? We can answer “yes” to all these questions, but with a remark that all these achievements are supposed to be results of a really deep internal self-improvement, so that all these things are like prizes for your motivation.
  • The point of mental techniques is obtaining harmony, adequacy and versatility in your way of thinking, constructivity in reacting to environmental issues, attentiveness in doing usual things, sincere manner of interacting with other people, etc.
  • Exercises include practices both for your body and mind. You need to understand that you are a unique individual with your own strengths and weaknesses, so that to be a successful person you need to learn how to leverage your strengths and how to identify and accept your weaknesses in order of continual improving those areas.
  • You need to understand and accept that staying committed to a continuous self-learning and lifelong personal development are the only path to real self-improvement. You need to seek for advantageous balance in all areas of your life including family and relationships, career and business, rest and pastime, health and spirituality.
  • While you are moving through a path of self-improvement you can collect and record your observations and ideas into a plan outlining things you would like to better. You can even compose worksheets for days, weeks, etc.
  • There are lots of different doubtful and dubious programs around us (different commercial projects, “experts” and “gurus” promising to provide us with help, etc). You should perceive these guys very guardedly in order to avoid charlatans who can ruin your life. Self-improvement is called so because it is based on your personally deep experience and thoughts.
  • All tools you really need are always with you – they are your own mind, good will, excitement about the idea of self-improvement, commitment to learning and changing. You can use some software for planning your efforts (for example VIP Organizer).

Physical health:

  • Lower the amount of unhealthy fats, sugar and caffeine you eat during the day.
  • Avoid eating junk food. Study recipes of a healthier food and try to cook at home.
  • Critically reduce the amount of alcohol you drink. Remember that drinking alcohol is not the best method of everyday relaxation. Even small doses can insensibly ruin your health.
  • Completely stop smoking cigarettes as it is one of the most dangerous addictions. Moreover, smoking withdrawal is a great practical exercise for your will (to know more study Quit smoking checklist).
  • Do wholesome physical activities permanently (exercises, walking, biking, swimming etc).
  • Eat more fruits and drink more of clean water instead of sweet beverages (like cola).
  • Know from your doctor which vitamins you can take to better functions of your organism (for example to better your sight, condition of your skin, etc).
  • Try to go in the open air more often. Take weekend trips to nearest forest, mountains or sea shore to breathe with fresh air.
  • Have professional diagnostics and therapy for your health disorders and problems. Recognize your problems and do not neglect ailments.
  • Periodically take a course of massage therapy for your back and neck, as health of your vertebral spine is a fundamental condition for the whole organism’s health.
  • Observe healthy sleep-wakefulness pattern – have normal 8 hours of sleep every 24 hours.
  • Study and manage your stress and anger (see details in Anger management checklist) as uncontrolled anger can create problems in interpersonal communications, and it makes a serious pressure on your heart-vascular system.
  • Avoid sitting too long. If you have a seated activity you should take short breaks every hour to walk or do some easy exercises.
  • Stay devoted to personal hygiene practice (to know more about this topic you can study Personal hygiene checklist).

Mentality:

  • Train your memory with a help of special exercises. There are different exercises and techniques to improve different types of your memory including long-term and short-term memory.
  • Seek out the arts on a regular basis (theater, concerts, museums, etc). Make cultural and heritage tourism a normal part of your life.
  • Think of your current job. Are you satisfied with it? Are there any additional skills or expertise you want to master in order of becoming a better professional? Try to keep learning all the time.
  • Have more time devoted to reading good books. Study world’s classic literature as it is a wealth of humanitarian ideas and intellectual researches where you probably will find some proper answers to your real-life challenges.
  • Learn to perceive things positively – try to find the positive aspect in everything. You need to accept what cannot be changed, and do not hesitate to act on what you can change.
  • Embrace your mistakes as this is a prerequisite to your self-improvement. Don’t fear of making mistakes, but get learned from your failures as they are sure self-improvement opportunities and keys to success.
  • Embrace changes as they are a normal part of our life. Try to look at changes with a positive attitude. Don’t fear any changes because sometimes they are just necessary, better try to initiate positive changes around you.
  • Try a new interesting hobby. For example, even if you think that you have no ear for music, you may try to learn playing some music instrument (let’s say a guitar). You may become a stamp collector or a numismatist – in both cases you will improve your knowledge in history and geography.
  • Aspire to personal excellence (but don’t become a perfectionist). It is just about showing your best attitude in everything you do, or striving to accomplish every task conscientiously.
  • Do not pursue the future all the time, as well as do not get stuck in your past, but try to seek happiness in every present moment of you life, enjoy some simple things around you such as good weather, interesting conversation, or just good TV show, meal or anything else like this.

Personality:

  • Learn and develop analytical skills – always analyze your thoughts, behaviors, reactions. Keep control over your real motives. Judge them to know if they are really right and legitimate.
  • Find out what behaviors and traits you dislike in other people, analyze your behavior to correct and eliminate wrong behaviors and reactions.
  • Regularly analyze your behavior and deeds, think what you did wrong, how to correct it, and how to avoid it in future.
  • Find out what behaviors and traits you really like in other people, try to inherit these behaviors and traits.
  • Be honest with yourself and others. Make honesty one of your core pricniples.
  • Control your speech to make it literate, clear and polite. Perhaps you should take some oratorical lessons.
  • Learn to be a better listener.
  • Do not invent any excuses for your weak points. Better think of how to overcome them.
  • Stay devoted to the best moral principles. Continually study religious and philosophical heritage of the mankind.
  • If you don’t attain fast results, don’t get disappointed or frustrated about it, and never give up. Persevere with your efforts.
  • Think of your relations with parents and other elder members of your family. Do you have really good and attentive relationships with them? Are you really fair and honest with them? Think of how you can better your relations.
  • Think of your relations with your friends and colleagues. Is there anything you want to correct or improve? See friends on a regular basis.
  • Avoid any use of “double standards policy” (when you condemn others for something that you allow to yourself).
  • Don’t hesitate to apologize when you are wrong. People who avoid apologizing look irresponsible, rude or just elementary unskilled in interpersonal communications.
  • Use humor and smile to maintain the positive attitude and share it with others.
  • Never assert yourself at the expense of others.
  • Usually you receive what you give out. Seek to be giving, compassionate and loving.
  • Think of efforts you can offer to people around you. Try to take part in some volunteer services.
